CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER - GABORONE - FIVE (5) YEARS FIXED TERM CONTRACT

Main purpose of the position
To provide strategic leadership and oversight of the Corporation’s financial management through establishment of a financial strategy, effective financial planning, monitoring and risk management, enhancement of business controls and governance for long-term stability and growth. The position will oversee budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting and ensure compliance with all relevant statutory and regulatory requirements, standards and practices as well as provide guidance in investment strategies and optimisation of the Corporation’s capital structure.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead the development of financial strategy to support the Corporation’s goals and advise on long term financial planning to drive growth initiatives
- Manage the coordination of the development of the corporate forecast and budget, verifying that guidelines and parameters are complied with.
- Develop model/framework for capture of inputs that feed into the budget, to suit BPC requirements, applying professional skills, knowledge of industry and understanding of company reporting requirements
- Schedule and advice on and during the review of various departmental budgets for consistency, accuracy, omissions and recommends appropriate remedial action for identified anomalies.
- Review financial and management accounting reports to identify variances of actual against budget, analyses variances, and reports on them, or investigates unacceptable variances.
- Provide financial input and advice to the CEO, presents accounts to the Audit Committee, and attends Board meetings, and supports the CEO in the presentation and interpretation of accounts
- Ensure accuracy, compliance, and timeliness of financial reports and/or statements for key stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
- Set direction, policies and objectives for the finance department, aligned with the Corporation’s Strategy, and manage the implementation to ensure achievement of objectives and effective financial control in line with corporate governance, legislative and other regulatory requirements.
- Deliver strategic leadership for defining the commercial path to growth and profitability of the company and the establishment of an effective growth process and infrastructure.
- Provide strategic support and guidance on financial management issues including treasury activities and fiduciary responsibilities to the shareholders to enable effective management decision making and governance.
- Review reports on bank balances and overall capitalisation of the Company, determines investment options after discussion and negotiations with commercial banks.
- Develop policy framework for the management and transfer of funds between bank accounts, for approval by the Audit Committee.
- Lead the identification and evaluation of various investment opportunities and determination of those most likely to create long-term value for the Corporation.
- Oversee the process of performing a thorough financial analysis and feasibility assessment to determine investment opportunities’ viability.
- Coordinate and facilitate decisions on the investment options to maximize shareholder value and support the Corporation’s long-term growth objectives.
- Oversee the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the effectiveness of the investment strategies and initiatives.
- Oversee costs optimisation, implementation of financial automation and enhancement of data accuracy.
- Determine the strategy to ensure that logistics process is effective to provide required supplies of goods for the smooth running of the Corporation, taking into account assets in place to deliver the corporate services.
- Monitor the supplies delivery processes with a view to improve service delivery, and formulate recommendations for improvement.
- Determine staffing and competency requirements for the department, taking into account current and planned activities, and justify same to Divisional Manager.
- Develop succession and localisation plans for the Division, and monitor the implementation of those, making sure that appropriate strategies are in place, and that appropriate training is provided.
- Formulate SHER strategies for the Department, and approve SHER policies and procedures recommended by Level II and Level I staff.
Qualifications
- ACCA/CIMA/CA and work in professional accounting environment, and full membership of professional body.
- Additional qualification in Finance,Investment Banking or Corporate Finance (CFA, MBA Finance or equivalent) is neccessary requirement of the role.
Experience
- A minimum of fifteen (15) years post-qualification experience in a large commercial setting with complex financial accounting and reporting systems.
- Proven experience in statutory reporting.
- Extensive Capital Markets & Investment Banking experience.
- Proven track record in capital-intensive energy infrastructure projects, including structuring debt/equity financing.
- Proven experience in raising financing from DFIs, ECAs, Commercial Banks and Capital Markets.
- Experience in developing bankable power projects financial models and tarrif frameworks.
- Proven track record in leading and managing a large Finance Division in infrastructure investments/management organisations, including the Procurement function at strategic Level.
- Experience in engaging and managing regulators, lenders, government and investors.
- Experience in financial restructuring or transformation programmes is an added advantage.
