Main purpose of the position

To plan, organise and supervise the distribution network planning activities to ensure availability of adequate Transmission & Distribution network

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Plans and maintains a medium-term rollover network programme in line with the long-term development plan for all Transmission & Distribution networks to achieve adequate capacity and a reliable network.
  • Supervises the Distribution Network Planning & drawing office activities & allocate duties for the achievement of sectional objectives.
  • Works on site with consultants and contractors during pre-energising, commissioning meetings, and takeover of new equipment to ensure that they conform to BPC’s standards and requirements.
  • Analyses systems performance information and recommends changes and or addition to the transmission and distribution system to achieve network optimization within the area of responsibility.
  • Prepares draft budget, implements, monitors and controls expenditure against approved budget.
  • Designs distribution networks which are compliant with BPC network planning and distribution standards.
  • Manages relationships with clients by addressing queries, clarifications, and updates to ensure their needs are met while supporting senior colleagues in managing escalated issues.
  • Executes a network planning and distribution communication plan by working within established internal communication systems and procedures.
  • Identifies shortcomings in existing processes, systems and procedures and suggests recommendations
  • Provides input into the development of standards, policies, and procedures for Distribution Network Planning, then monitors their implementation.
  • Monitors the performance of the team by working within an established performance management system
  • Adheres to all Safety Health, Environmental and Risk standards contained in the Corporation’s SHER policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Recognised Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Must be registered with Engineers Registering Board (ERB)
  • Class B Drivers License is required

Experience

  • At least Five (5) years post qualification experience in a power -systems planning environment.
  • Attainment of Senior Authorization will be an added advantage.
