 In its pursuit to become a Competitive Commercial Power Utility within the Region, Botswana Power Corporation invites applications from suitably qualified, highly energetic, dynamic, result oriented, innovative, and customer focused individuals, who believe they can be part of a great team that delivers power to Botswana to apply for the below listed position not later than 15 FEBRUARY 2025. 

Main purpose of the position

  • To plan, coordinate and control the activities of Mechanical Maintenance Department to ensure maximum availability and performance to agreed standards in terms of plant reliability, availability, technical efficiency, environmental impact and safety at an acceptable cost and risk.
  • The incumbent will oversee formulation of Maintenance policies, codes and standards within the Power Station for adherence to safety and environmental compliance, as well as execution and coordination of specialised engineering works.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manages all Morupule maintenance operations and activities.
  • Coordinates the activities of the maintenance department, allocates roles and responsibilities, and provides technical advice to ensure timeous completion of works without compromising safety and quality.
  • Provides input into the development of Plant Life Reliability and Maintainability Plans , and monitors the implementation of the plans.
  • Analyses plant data to develop new asset management plans and improve available asset management strategies
  • Manages relationships with clients to ensure their needs are met in accordance with the set Service Level Agreements (measures and reports fault recovery times, ensure unplanned outages are reduced, coordinates planned outages to reflect the integrated maintenance plans etc.).
  • Proposes Business Model for Maintenance Department and implement as approved to drive the Corporate Strategy.
  • Prepares tender documents, contracts and functional specifications for plant upgrades.
  • Leads departmental initiatives and/or programs within an area of expertise and develop new methods, tools and programs for quality assurance
  • Develops measures to ensure cost effective maintenance activities.

 

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical/Mechanical/Mechatronic/ Process Engineering or equivalent from a recognised institution.
  • Should be a member of the Botswana Engineering Registration Board – Registered at Professional Level

Experience

  • A minimum of eight (8) years relevant post qualification experience of which, at least three (3) years should have been in a management capacity.
  • Knowledge and experience of the electricity industry, and power generation will be an added advantage.
  • Fossil-fired power generation is required.
  • Experience in a maintenance environment is required.
