 In its pursuit to become a Competitive Commercial Power Utility within the Region, Botswana Power Corporation invites applications from suitably qualified, highly energetic, dynamic, result oriented, innovative, and customer focused individuals, who believe they can be part of a great team that delivers power to Botswana to apply for the below listed position not later than 29th November 2024.

Main purpose of the position

To install, maintain, repair and service power station mechanical and electrical equipment, efficiently and effectively in accordance with set standards, specifications and safety requirement to ensure optimal plant availability.

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of standard tests such as Insulation & Winding Resistance, Voltage Tests in accordance with set standard procedures to ensure safe and sustainable operation of plant equipment  
  • Selects appropriate data from information provided by others and inputs that data into spreadsheets or standard formats.
  • Provides preliminary data for Root Cause Analysis Operate within current compliance processes, systems and procedures and reports shortcomings to immediate supervisors to ensure efficient plant operation.
  • Performs housekeeping tasks by following established procedures
  • Implements improvements and carries out simple change management tasks by following established procedures to support others.
  • Performs standard installation, maintenance and repair activities under detailed guidance, while also troubleshooting basic technical and/or operational problems by applying previously defined matching solutions.
  • Operates various electrical and mechanical equipment, adjusting work sequence as directed to improve efficiency.
  • Performs relatively simple testing and quality assurance tasks.
  • Operates in accordance with policies and rules, while performing routine safety checks on own equipment and workspace.
  • Contributes to the development of risk assessments

Qualifications

  • A recognized National Craft Certificate (NCC) in either Auto Mechanics, Heavy Plant Mechanics, Auto Electrical or equivalent
  • A valid Class B Driver’s license.

Experience

  • Two (2) years post qualification experience or successful completion of the Artisan Development Program (ADP) in relevant trade
