In its pursuit to become a Competitive Commercial Power Utility within the Region, Botswana Power Corporation invites applications from suitably qualified, highly energetic, dynamic, result oriented, innovative, and customer focused individuals, who believe they can be part of a great team that delivers power to Botswana to apply for the below listed position not later than 15 FEBRUARY 2025.
Main purpose of the position
- To plan, coordinate and control the operations of the power station to achieve agreed operational targets and ensure that the generation plant performs to set standards in terms of plant availability,technical efficiency, environmental impact and safety at an acceptable cost and risk.
Job Responsibilities
- Coordinates the activities of the operations department, allocates roles and responsibilities, and provides technical advice to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the power station.
- Analyses plant data to develop new asset management plans and improve available asset management strategies.
- Develops policies and procedures and monitors their implementation to ensure compliance.
- Manages operations department projects that directly affect the availability of the generating plant within an established program management plan and Generation Project Governance Strategy.
- Develops Operations Department contract management tools and ensures awareness of key deliverables to ease implementation and drive for compliance.
- Develops Departmental budget proposals and manages implementation within the approved limits.
- Evaluates the feasibility/relevance of proposed solutions, then develops and/or delivers a plan for significant aspects of the development program within an established framework.
- Proposes Business Model for Operations Department and implement as approved to drive the Corporate Strategy.
- Manages relationships with clients to ensure their needs are met in accordance with the set Service Level Agreements (measures and reports availability to stakeholders as per set or agreed timelines).
- Manages Operations Department to ensure adherence to the Corporation’s SHEMS Policy, procedures, and practices.
Qualifications
- A recognised Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Science in Electrical/Mechanical/Chemical/Process Engineering or equivalent.
- Must be registered with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) as a Professional Engineer.
- A post graduate related qualification will be an added advantage.
- Additional management qualifications will be an added advantage.
Experience
- At least eight (8) years post qualification experience, of which at least three (3) years should be in a management capacity.
- Knowledge and experience of the electricity industry in general power generation and power plant operation in particular will be an added advantage.
