Main purpose of the position
- To carry out rigging procedures to facilitate the safe lifting and movement of equipment in accordance with laid down procedures and statutory requirements.
Job Responsibilities
- Performs a variety of standard tests that require moderate judgment.
- Tests and splices ropes to produce slings for use in the plant and other corporation’s rigging requirements.
- Selects appropriate data from information provided by others and inputs that data into spreadsheets or standard formats.
- Provides preliminary data for Root Cause Analysis
- Works within current compliance processes, systems and procedures and reports shortcomings.
- Maintains an inventory of rigging tools and equipment in accordance with the relevant statutory requirements including records of discarded tools and informs the supervisor on the need for replacement.
- Carries out routine inspections on all rigging tools and equipment and makes appropriate records to ensure the safe operation in accordance with statutory requirements.
- Performs simple facilities tasks by following established procedures to support others.
- Implements improvements and carries out simple change management tasks by following established procedures to support others.
- Performs standard installation, maintenance and repair activities under detailed guidance, while also troubleshooting basic technical and/or operational problems by applying previously defined matching solutions.
- Erects and inspects temporary working platforms to facilitate the safe maintenance and repair of the plant.
- Operates various equipment, adjusting work sequence and/or other variables to improve efficiency.
- Directs the crane operator in lifting and movement of plant and equipment by applying the right and standard rules to ensure optimal safety to personnel and plant.
- Performs relatively simple testing and quality assurance tasks.
- Operates in accordance with policies and rules, while performing routine safety checks on own equipment and workspace.
- Undertake such other related duties as directed by the supervisor from time to time to meet the exigencies of the Corporation.
Qualifications
- A recognized National Craft Certificate (NCC) in Rigging and Ropesman.
- Competent Person
- Driver’s license
Experience
- A minimum of one (1) year post qualification experience in maintenance and operations environment.
