SAFETY AND HEALTH OFFICER (x1) - (5-YEAR FIXED TERM CONTRACT) - SOUTH
In its pursuit to become a Competitive Commercial Power Utility within the Region, Botswana Power Corporation invites applications from suitably qualified, highly energetic, dynamic, result oriented, innovative, and customer focused individuals, who believe they can be part of a great team that delivers power to Botswana to apply for the below listed position not later than 29th November 2024.
Main purpose of the position
To coordinate the implementation of the Safety and Health program requirements and initiatives as well as provide onsite support to the business and ensuring compliance with standards and relevant legislation.
Job Responsibilities
- Initiate & implement risk assessment profiles and risk mitigation strategies using the BPC adopted methodologies or matrix.
- Provide advice on all accidents/incidents using RCAT methodology.
- Provide guidance on the implementation of SHER management system.
- Collate data into reports and provide to the SHER Superintended for making recommendation to line management.
- Develop regional action plans based on incident/accident investigation findings, as well as methods for ongoing incident reporting and tracking the closure of deviations to prevent recurrence
- Facilitate training and awareness to employees and interested parties on SHER issues and relevant statutory requirements applicable to the organisation to improve SHE performance and ensure compliance.
- Anticipate, identify, assess, and report possible hazards and risks within processes through application of risk management tools.
- Conduct SHER customer Surveys and implement recommendations.
- Facilitate the continuous improvement of risk assessment (BRA reviews) Corporate wide.
- Enforce compliance to all applicable standards, legal and other requirements in line with best practice and systems regionally.
- Conduct inspections and audits to ensure that Safety and Health non-compliances are identified and rectified in a timely manner Corporation wide.
- Educate management and employees on Safety and Health issues and relevant statutory requirements applicable to the organisation to ensure compliance
- Ensures that all SHER standards contained in the Corporation’s SHE Performance standard is adhered to.
- Participation in evaluation of risk when establishing processes, controls, and systems.
- Ensure that all SHER contractor requirements to BPC SHER performance standards are complied to prior to engagement.
Qualifications
- A recognised Bachelors Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent
- Sound knowledge in implementation of ISO 45001, ISO 14001, ISO 9001 and best practice systems such as IRCA/NOSA
- Valid Membership of Professional Institution of Occupational Health and Safety is an added advantage.
Experience
- A minimum of three (3) years post qualification experience in Safety and Health function within an industrial environment.

Experience in monitoring and reporting on World Bank-funded projects will be an added advantage.
