Main purpose of the position
To provide leadership in the Corporation’s transformation agenda in all activities relating to Corporate Strategic Planning and Execution, Corporate Performance Management, Research and Innovation, Change Management, Business Advisory, and Business Improvement as well as ensuring alignment with Government policies and strategies to successfully deliver the corporate mandate.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead the development of policies and procedures that guide the formulation, development, and optimal implementation of the BPC Strategy.
- Lead the long-term planning, formulation and development of the BPC Corporate Strategy utilizing pertinent and Policy research data.
- Update the strategic plan in accordance with recommendations provided by the Chief Executive Officer, Management, Board, and key stakeholders.
- Provide insights into the Government development plans, strategies and horizons.
- Lead in the review of policies and processes that have an adverse effect on the generation, transmission and distribution of affordable power and recommend improvements.
- Oversee periodic policy and economic research and synthesis of information in a clear, meaningful manner within a knowledge repository that communicates pertinent industry and sector trends.
- Oversee the development of the corporation’s performance management and Monitoring System.
- Lead cascading of the corporate strategy to departments, sectionals, teams, and individuals.
- Oversee regular corporate performance reviews, performance monitoring reports, and approve recommendations for closing the performance gaps.
- Liaise with the human resources function to align employee performance contracts to the strategy of the Corporation.
- Advocate for policy change and adoption of appropriate business direction.
- Oversee the embedment of the Business Operations Management philosophies, (Lean Six Sigma, Business Process Management, Total Quality Management, Change Management, Quality Management Systems, Kaizen etc.).
- Oversee the development and refinement of sustainable business models in line with organizational strategy.
- Identify opportunities for outsourcing of projects and negotiates service level agreements on behalf of the organization.
- Oversee the development and implementation of a change strategy and initiatives as and when necessary.
- Monitor and report on the implementation of BPC strategy periodically.
- Oversee the annual strategy review and evaluation exercise and communicate the recommendations for closing the performance gap.
- Develop and maintain strategic relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including the public, government, private, civil society, research institutions and development partners to strengthen communications and strategic and policy planning capabilities.
- Facilitate BPC Stakeholder Forums, Networking and Partnerships with Business Intelligence content.
- Review departmental manpower plans to ensure effective utilization of manpower through optimal staffing levels.
- Build, lead and motivate subordinates to advance into a high performing team, ensuring the development of their skills and expertise in line with changing needs.
- Guide the teams to carry out their assignments professionally, and that they adhere to relevant legal and regulatory guidelines and in-house and standards policies in the conduct of their duties.
- Propose and implement staff development plans for the area of responsibility to ensure competent, efficient, and motivated staff. Manage performance of the team by working within the prescribed performance management system.
- Oversee & ensure the team’s adherence to safety protocols contained in the Corporation’s SHE standards.
- Monitor reporting & closure of near miss cases within the department .
Qualifications
- A minimum of a relevant degree from a recognised university in Strategy Management, Commerce or equivalent.
- Any management post-graduate qualification will be an added advantage.
Experience
- A minimum of ten (10) years of relevant post-qualification experience, five (5) of which should have been in Senior Management positions.
- Experience in the field of Strategic Management, Corporate Performance Management, Business Improvement, Business Model Development, Change Management, Culture Transformation, Business Development, Benefits Management, Research, Innovation Management, and Programme Management are required.
