Main purpose of the position

To operate and monitor the Water Treatment Plants inline with established guidelines and to ensure adequate supply of quality water to the Power Station.

Job Responsibilities

  • Collect samples for analysis as per schedule in accordance with set standards and procedures.
  • Perform functional tests on various equipment in the plant and reports on or takes remedial action where necessary.
  • Perform water testing for plant performance monitoring in accordance with set standards and procedures.
  • Maintain and monitor inventory of water treatment plant inputs and outputs to ensure sufficient water supply.
  • Monitor and log water treatment plant readings and plant status to ensure the availability and efficiency of the plant.
  • Identify and report any malfunctions and deviations on water readings to the relevant supervisor or take remedial actions where necessary.
  • Operate Water Treatment Plants as per the laid down procedures to ensure compliance to Water Treatment Plants specifications.
  • Inspect facilities and address deviations following established procedures to ensure safe work areas.
  • Suggest improvements and carries out approved change management tasks by following established procedures to ensure continual improvement.
  • Operate water treatment plants and monitors the treatment of water to ensure quality of water is according to requirements and specifications.
  • Assist Senior Authorised Person in the water treatment plant isolation including the closing of relevant valves to ensure that the plant is safe for maintenance, repair and restarting of plant/equipment in accordance with procedures.
  • Implements standards operating procedures and methods to ensure compliance with set standards.
  • Operate in accordance with policies and procedures, while performing routine safety checks on equipment and workspace.
  • Operate effluent systems and monitors all chemical waste from the water plant to ensure they are disposed in a safe and environmentally friendly manner.

Qualifications

  • At least a Recognised Certificate in Water Treatment and Purification or equivalent.
  • Must be Junior authorised internally 6 months from appointment.

Experience

At least two (2) years post qualification experience in a Water Treatment Plant environment.
