In its pursuit to become a Competitive Commercial Power Utility within the Region, Botswana Power Corporation invites applications from suitably qualified, highly energetic, dynamic, result oriented, innovative, and customer focused individuals, who believe they can be part of a great team that delivers power to Botswana to apply for the below listed position not later than 27th December 2024.
Main purpose of the position
To coordinate all aspects of land acquisition and registration of the transmission and distribution lines, wayleaves (servitudes and easements) and substations land to meet statutory requirements to allow growth in the distribution of power throughout the country and the expansion of the corporation's operations.
Job Responsibilities
- Secure servitudes for transmission capital projects, distribution capital projects, Rural electrification projects and or escalated customer service wayleave requests (semi projects) in line with statutory requirement from relevant authorities for the Corporations new assets to ensure compliance with applicable statutes and regulations
- Resolves land acquisition disputes and claims for timely delivery of projects
- To give guidance to the assessment committee to ensure compensation of all affected property owners and securing of land rights for timely delivery of projects
- Advises the selection and alignment of transmission and distribution substations and lines for minimal compensation on affected properties
- Facilitate key stakeholders for registration of acquired servitudes (registration of tittle deeds for line servitudes at Deeds Registry)
- Liaises with all key stakeholders on behalf of the corporation to facilitate the acquisition of land to avoid delays in the implementation of projects.
- Carry out consultations with the relevant affected property owners in terms of Tribal Land Act to get their buy in and minimize disputes and queries
- Register, investigate, report on queries, and provide support to the Corporation through the litigation process up to Court of Appeal.
- Reviews the compensation claims to ensure that the Corporation gets value for its servitude’s investments.
- Acquire land within the guidance of planning and land management statutes.
- Develop and maintain internal processes to ensure efficient land acquisition.
- Compile and manage land acquisition data into way leaves registration systems and databases to enable easy cross-referencing and retrieval of information.
- Contributes and implements sectional budget.
- Identifies shortcomings in existing processes, systems and procedures, then uses established change management programs to deliver prescribed outcomes and/or provide support services.
- Delivers own prescribed outcomes and/or provides support services by using the organization's safety, health and environment systems and protocols.
Qualifications
- BSc in Environmental Science/Urban & Regional Planning or related field from a recognised institution.
- Class B Drivers License is required.
Experience
- At least three (3) years post qualification experience in Land use Planning and Urban Planning, two (2) years of which should have been exposed to land survey, real estate, property law, land acquisition and compensation regulations.
